Netflix’s Live Streaming Woes: Technical Issues Frustrate Fans

Netflix has mastered on-demand streaming, but its foray into live events is exposing significant shortcomings. From reality TV reunions to high-profile sports, the platform’s live broadcasts have been riddled with technical issues, leaving fans increasingly dissatisfied.

The highly anticipated Taylor-Serrano boxing match, a landmark in women’s boxing, was expected to highlight Netflix’s potential in live sports. Instead, viewers encountered lagging streams and login failures throughout the event, dampening the excitement of the bout.

This isn’t an isolated issue for Netflix. Previous attempts at live programming, including The Love Is Blind reunion, were marred by delays and crashes, leaving viewers waiting hours for broadcasts that never materialized.

Unlike platforms like YouTube and Twitch, which are built to handle the demands of live streaming, Netflix’s infrastructure remains optimized for on-demand viewing. Live events require systems capable of managing millions of simultaneous viewers—an area where Netflix appears underprepared.

To compete in live programming, Netflix will need significant investments in its streaming technology. Until then, its ventures into live events may continue to fall short, reinforcing its strength in on-demand content rather than real-time broadcasts.
