Mr. Martinez, a dedicated biomedical sciences teacher at Harmony Science Academy, has spent the last 13 years shaping the futures of countless students. His journey to education, however, began far from the classroom.
Originally a general practitioner in Mexico, Martinez taught online Spanish classes on the side. It was a colleague's request that led him to Harmony Science Academy, where he initially taught health sciences courses part-time. Over time, his role expanded, and he became instrumental in developing the school's biomedical sciences pathway, a program now integral to the academy's curriculum.
When asked to share advice for students aspiring to pursue careers in biomedical sciences, Martinez offered a mix of humor and heartfelt guidance.
“Don’t," he joked, before turning serious. "No, I’m just kidding. I’ll tell every student the same thing: depending on what you wanna do in the biomedical field—if you wanna be a nurse, if you wanna be an EMT, if you wanna be a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner, or anything like that—go for it. If you wanna be a doctor, if you wanna be a surgeon, neurosurgeon, cardiothoracic surgeon, cardiologist, or anything like that, I would say if you can see yourself doing anything else, do that. It's too time consuming. It's very mentally draining. It's very physically draining. It's very financially draining in the long run."
Mr. Martinez’s impact on his students and the biomedical sciences program at Harmony Science Academy reflects his commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. "But if that is your passion and you can't see yourself doing anything else, work hard to accomplish your goals. 24 hours go by in the blink of an eye when you’re doing what you love,” he said.
