Hello. My name is Ayaan Shah, and I'm with the journalism team in Mr. Cooper's first period; I'm here with Janella. We will be interviewing Josua Dogarel, an international student on a scholarship. So, I will ask questions about your background, motivation, and academic life.
What motivated you to study abroad?
Since I was small, I wanted to go on an exchange here. The US seemed like a nice place because of its food, people, and reputation.
How does your home country differ from here?
In my home country, people are more conservative. We have different schooling, a different school system, and a completely different culture.
What program brought you here? And why did you choose it? The program that brought me here was FLEX. It's a scholarship for exchange students that allows us to study in America and experience life there. I chose it because I wanted to move further in my school career and take harder classes.
So, how does the academic system compare to my home country?
School is 10 times more challenging in my home country, and the grading system is entirely different. We have 18 subjects, and every subject consists of zero to 10. So, the lowest grade you could get is a zero, and that's like failing. You have to repeat the whole year of school.
So far, being in harmony, how do you enjoy our school?
I enjoy harmony. Everyone is so nice here, and the teachers are amazing at teaching. I also enjoy my classes, as I have made many friends. So far in America, what fun things have you done here? So far, I have gone to the mall. Also, I like this new place I found, which is only in America, called “Canes.”
